The Three A’s
Academic:Assist student-athletes with intensive academic, athletic and leadership development through a two day program, which is intended to build confidence and athletic ability while continuing learning when the student is out of school. The academic programming will focus on communications and math skills development through activities such as essay writing and quantitative problem solving.
Attitude: A positive attitude is important for ensuring that you have a fulfilling and enjoyable life. Building a positive attitude will make it easier for you to recognize and reflect on positive emotions as you experience them. You will also start reframing negative emotions in the moment that they begin to occur. Taking time for yourself and cultivating relationships are important components of building a positive attitude.
Athletics: The athletics program serves several purposes. First, it is a hook that keeps participants engaged in our academic program. Second, the athletic program is a classroom where leadership and life skills are developed. Third, because our teams travel to tournaments at colleges and in cities throughout the country, the athletic program exposes participants to educational opportunities and new people, places and experiences. In addition Weekend Skills will be an initiative that is open to our students for a 12-week schedule of basketball clinics which couples basketball skills with life skills each week (i.e. ‘passing and decision making; rebounding and determination).
